Esperanza Rising Pam Munoz Ryan Elya

This is an amazing book. It is about a rich girl who believes she will always be happy, until one day, her father gets killed by bandits, and then the huge mansion burns down. Esperanza and Mama escape to California from Mexico, and find work. This book is about getting used to new things, being a peasant, not having fancy clothes, not being able to have a feast every night... After a mean dust storm, Mama gets sick, and the doctor bills get very high. First she has the Valley Fever, then on top of that, depression, then, pneumonia. Mama gets very sick, and the doctor asks Esperanza not to come for a very long time. Mama is moved into the long period sickness room, where there are only four other people.
This is as far as I have gotten, and I think that this is one of the greatest books I've ever read. I recommend this book to anyone. That is pretty rare, but this one is a pretty good find.
