Castle Waiting starts out as a classic fairy tale with a twist. It's your standard Sleeping Beauty-spin off with the queen who wants a baby and a evil witch. The story isn't really that interesting until about Chapter 5: Jain, a highly pregnant noblewoman is looking for the legendary castle in which the aforementioned royal family lived. Once she arrives, you see the full spectrum of characters: Doctor Fell, a psychotic doctor who refuses to take off his plague mask (even though the plague has passed), Beckham, the half-vuluture caretaker, Sir Chess, a human-horse knight and Sister Peace, a member of St Wilfortes (a group of followers, all bearded women).
Among many other books I have been reading the past week, Castle Waiting sticks out to me. Mostly because of the fact that it's a Graphic Novel, but also because of how much I enjoyed it. The characters are portrayed really well, and I perceived the entire story as playful in a way, like a simple, silly play put together by best friends. I would highly recommend this story to anyone.
This is a thoughtful review, Zoe. I'm glad that you are enjoying the book.
