The Day Joanie Became A Boy, Elya

This book is about a family who is moving to a new town already three weeks into the school year, and no one wants to go. But then, the already tomboyish girl Joanie, turns into boy John, when the teacher reads her name wrong on the attendance sheet. There was a typo in the list! Joanie takes the risk, and becomes John, hanging out with the boys her age, and avoiding her moms makeover tips. Joanie writes a story, about a kid and a gang with powers, and the boys read it. The main leader, Zane Hamilton, decides to make a real SuperDude club, but to get in it, you have to pass three tests. The first, hand on a thin rickety tree branch over a gushing river, Joanie passes, the second, throw firecrackers into an old man's yard, she doesn't have the time to do, since they need to run away from the man, since they let his cat Murphy on fire, the third, though, goes over the line, the test was to follow a girl Lucinda home, and snap her bra strap. Zane goes over the top, and says, "While we are at it, let's see what color it is", and Joanie/ John tackles him. She reveals her true identity when Zane calls her a girl, and ....
Sorry, I've given too much away, there is much more, but I don't want to ruin the book. Things happen to the family's dog, and there are friendships that are surprising, and the whole thing is a bundle of excitement..... I know some of this sounds really cheesy, but it is a great book...
I recommend this to anyone, boy or girl, since there are both perspectives in the book...
